Classic Sonokeling

Description

Dimensions: 125 x 40 x 25mm

Botanical name: Dalbergia latifolia

Origin: Indonesia

Other names: East Indies Rosewood, Plantation Rosewood

Has distinct Cocobolo look, with deep purple brown, reddish brown, sometimes greenish brown, more or less striped, hard and heavy.
Regularly available and reasonably priced rosewood from plantations established by the Dutch on the island of Java.
Sonokeling is the same tree as Indian rosewood but differs, presumably because of the plantation origins and to some extent climate, in having a broader colour range and a little less hardness and density.

Will make a stunning knife handle or scales.

Please remember to use a mask.
